In 2020 Be Hard on Yourself.

The only real obstacle in your path to a fulfilling life is you. It’s time to enter new doors, leaving old baggage behind.

Unhealthy relationships, negative emotions, bad habits and attitudes? Yes, It’s time to leave it all behind.

This year, you must resolve to do better than you fared in 2019. There’s no more space for shilly-shallying and deferments. No more ears given to uninformed commitments and unintentional discussions. This year, you’ve got bigger decisions to make, life-changing alterations to nurture, and mind blowing moves to create. You don’t have time for the insignificant. Leave that old baggage of self-pity and denial behind.

This time, you have to be deliberate in your actions.

“One’s philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes. In the long run, we shape our lives and we shape ourselves. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make are ultimately our own responsibility.” – Eleanor Roosevelt.

What are your goals for 2020?

Write them down.

And no, don’t put any form of specialty into writing down these goals. There’s no need to run off to the bookstore to get a Barbie journal, or wait till later when you can access a better writing material, or after you’ve meditated.

Pause, and write down your goals on a piece of paper or type them in your notes; set them clearly before you.

I’ll help.

From relationship goals, to financial goals, to career goals, to family goals, to spiritual goals, write them down separately and note that each of these goals have to be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time – Based. You don’t want to mix up your financial goals with your relationship goals either. Consider these areas of your life that you need to change or develop with time, and be honest with yourself while doing this.

Write down your goals for 2020 and be accountable to them. If your career goal for this year is to open a business of your own or be promoted by June, the first few items on your list underneath ‘Open my beauty business’ may be to take a bookkeeping class online, find the perfect location for your store, get a business license, create social media platforms for your beauty brand so your customers can find you online, create a website, create content, etc.

You decide.

At the end of your listing, you may have quite a large number of goals in different categories and different states of completion. Decide which goals are more important and time-sensitive. If you find yourself with too many goals to accomplish you will most likely feel overwhelmed and will be less likely to accomplish them, so make sure to choose a few top priorities.

The path towards our goals may not always run smoothly or be easy, but having goals, whether big or small, gives us a go, and a worthy sense of meaning and purpose, and points us in the right direction.

Leave your old baggage behind, and focus on what you have to accomplish this year; there’s no more time to waste.
